Historical Background of Pallepola Divisional Secretariat

Regarding the history of Pallepola area, it has been mentioned about the time Sri Maha Bodhi came to this country. Along with that, a part of the huge Arya people who came to this country made Matale district their home and most of them settled in Pallepola area.

Among them, Sri Dantana Brahmanarala (Monaravila), Akurambodarala (Akuramboda), Toswattarala (Koswatta) and Rankot Yamana (Pallepola) are mentioned in the Matale Kadaim book.

The ancients of the area believed that they belonged to the Bodhiraja caste and were people who had mastered various technical skills. They showed their skills in making iron and the old people say that until recently, iron balls were made from the yabora piles that are still seen in Pallepola today.

Although the establishment of more regular settlements took place later, there is evidence of settlements in the area even in the second century. This is mentioned in the Demadaoya inscription and this is one of the important inscriptions related to the history of the district. This area was more suitable for the establishment of Arya settlements due to the presence of the most suitable climate pattern for residence and the existence of suitable land for farming and a very good water supply pattern.
